After severe thunderstorms canceled Tuesday's Mentors Matter at Rollandia Golf Course, the kids and adults were back at in on June 24.
The kids continued to work on short-range iron shots.
According to Rollandia head professional Ted Cremeans, this method of practice allows kids to get a feel for making contact with the ball.
After golf and chowing down on subs provided by Donatos, Baxter Stapleton showed the kids their task for the rest of the afternoon.
The children were broken into groups and instructed to use two bags of marshmallows and toothpicks to build the tallest structure they could.
The marshmallow skyscraper contest enabled the mentees to work on leadership and teamwork skills. They worked within their respective groups to plan out the design and execute the strategy.
Mentors were only aloud to offer advice, they couldn't construct the towers.
Stapleton gave the kids 10 minutes to accomplish this task. When it was all said and done, Stapleton told the kids about teamwork and the role it plays in their everyday lives.
He reminded the kids of the leaders who emerged in their group. He also told the kids that while it's good to have someone who takes charge, it is essential for everyone to work on the same page because if a team doesn't work together, it will never accomplish what it sets out to finish.
Mentors Matter continues on June 29 at Rollandia.
