The kids came out with a lot of enthusiasm yesterday at Mentors Matters. Ted started the day off with a quick lesson on how to hit the ball longer. He demonstrated to the kids how to extend their arms to make a bigger swing. The kids worked hard at it and started to show some improvement. During lunch a lot of the kids even chose to keep practicing!
Frank Crockett was once again our guest speaker. Frank created a jump-rope drill for the kids in which the goal was for each group to get everyone through the jump-rope while always maintaining a presence. Despite some early struggles, the kids were able to work together to figure out the easiest way to get everyone through. The tricky part was remembering and figuring out how to get the “twirlers” through as well. Overall, the drill proved to be effective in teaching the kids how important it is to listen to other’s ideas. |
