Dayton Country Club (DCC) got the celebrity treatment on July 18 when rock music legend Alice Cooper arranged to play a round of golf on the historic Donald Ross designed course.
An avid golfer, Cooper was in town to play a concert at the Fraze Pavilion that same day when he decided he wanted to squeeze some golf into his morning.
Cooper, a reported seven handicap, played with DCC Head Professional Keith Fisher.
According to Fisher, DCC's Callaway sales representative called up the club and let them know that Cooper was looking for a tee time (Cooper has appeared in several Callaway TV commercials the past few years).
The rocker, whose hits include, "School's Out" and "No More Mr. Nice Guy", fired a 74 for the round, which didn't shock Fisher.
"I wasn't surprised because he's such a big golfer and very much into the game of golf," Fisher said. Fisher also added that Cooper's short game was very impressive.
Fisher was a little surprised by Cooper's knowledge of the intricacies of the golf swing. Cooper, who has received lessons from several tour pros, such as John Daly and has teed off with the likes of Tiger Woods and Vijay Singh, impressed Fisher by showing him his ability to make several different types of shots.
Cooper even made Fisher's day by telling him that the DCC course was one of the better courses he's ever played.
"It was very cool to hear that, being the head pro here," Fisher said. "For someone who has played a ton of golf courses in his life, that is a great compliment." |
