|The 41st Annual Junior World Qualifier took over NCR Country Club on Monday. By the end of the afternoon 14 golfers qualified for the Callaway Junior World Golf Championships at Torrey Pines Golf Club. Though the weather was overcast and cool, the competition was red hot. |
Austin Bagshaw of Hillsboro, carded an even par 71 on the South Course to earn the spot as low qualifier for the Boys 15-17 division. John Carlisle of Westerville, and Evan Hall of Lima, qualified as well shooting 72 and 73 respectively. The fourth qualifying position was decided in an exciting four hole playoff between Alec Velasco of Centerville, and Paul Maricocchi of Loveland. In the end, Maricocchi sunk a three foot putt to earn his trip to California.
What trumps a four hole playoff? Erin Harper of Dublin, gave herself an extra boost to become the low qualifier for the Girls 15-17 division by making a hole-in-one Monday. She finished with a two over 72 on the North Course, six shots ahead of the next competitor. Harper will be joined at Torrey Pines by Lexie Long of Dublin (78), Kathryn Young of Toledo(81), and Miranda Greene (82).
The Boys 13-14 division's low qualifier, Jack Herceg of Dublin, shot the North Course's best round of the day with a one over 71. Herceg edged out Alex Flick of Beavercreek by one stroke. Flick will also be making the trip to California, carding a 72.Katie Hallinan of Loveland earned the title of low qualifier for the Girls 13-14 division with a 74. Although Hannah Lemons of Canton and Alex Swayne of Maineville tied for second with a 79, Swayne will be making the trip to Torrey Pines.
The Boys 11-12 division's low qualifier is Eric Cherubini of Centerville. He shot an 85. He will be joined at the Junior Worlds by Joseph Wilson of West Chester who shot an 92.The Girls 11-12 was a duel between Ashley Au of Westerville and Natalia Sompolvorachai. Au earned the spot carding an 82.
